Fletcher Terry #5 Question

Postby chrisbuick » Wed Sep 30, 2015 12:22 pm

Hi John - I just received my Fletcher #5 point driver purchased on eBay. I have read all the posts concerning concerning this tool and have a problem. I loaded a few FT #2 (08-511) glazier points into the tool and cannot get them to fall down flat into the magazine. Consequently the tool jams! The tool I purchased is basically new.

Any ideas about this. Would I be better off using a diamond point strip? I have a BUNCH of plank sash to restore and wanted to automate the setting of points, especially since they no longer include the little metal point setting tool in with the points packaging.

Thanks for your help - Chris

Hi Chris, welcome to the Forum!

As you have learned, you cannot load individual points into the #5's magazine. You have to load a stack of points that are attached together into a "stack," as seen at the left:

Thanks John - I guess the 08-511 #2 glaziers points were available in a stack at some point in the past, but are no longer available, except loose?

I'll order a box of 08-211 diamond points asap. I have high hopes for this new tool!

Thanks - Chris
